Tractor-trailers collide, backing up traffic on 401

GUELPH (Dec 20, 2006)

Traffic was snarled in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 for about a half-hour Monday night after two tractor-trailers collided near a Guelph exit.

Cambridge OPP Constable Barb Kirkness said the trucks were travelling west when they collided around 10:45 p.m. just east of Highway 6 south of Guelph.

Both trucks had to be towed from the scene and the westbound lanes were closed during the investigation, she said.

There were no injuries.

Kirkness said tractor trailers, because of their size, can be difficult to deal with at accident scenes. They can also make roads hazardous if they leak diesel after a collision.

"You don't want people to come through at 100 kilometres an hour and hit diesel," she said.

"It's slippery. It has to be removed."

Kirkness said police are still investigating to determine what led to the accident.
